The 10 Best Mosquito Nets of - Travel + Leisure

These nets (along with bug repellent where applicable) provide a crucial barrier against mosquitoes and other insects that can carry diseases at worst and whose bites lead to miserable itching at best. These mosquito nets are lightweight and portable for front-country and backcountry travel, making them easy to carry and deploy in various settings. You&#;ll sleep better and feel better, even if it might feel goofy to have a bug net hanging in front of your face.

While mosquito nets aren&#;t the most fun thing to shop for, this little barrier can make or break your trip, whether you&#;re car camping, on a river trip, or out for a day hike. I&#;ve used a variety of mosquito nets for the past decade of backcountry recreation, on everything from bug-infested sections of thru-hikes to open-air hammocking to international travel where the risk of mosquito-borne disease can be higher.

Best Overall

Coghlan&#;s Mosquito Net For Hikers and Travelers

PHOTO: Amazon

Why We Love It

  • This net comes in two sizes, a more portable one for hiking and a bigger one for traveling.

What to Consider

  • The mesh isn&#;t fine enough to offer protection from the tiniest bugs.

This net gets my top marks for its combination of affordability, versatility, sizing, and basic functionality. A mosquito net doesn&#;t have to break the bank or be anything super special, and this one is durable, lightweight, breathable, and gets the job done. The opening is simple and secure, with enough of an overlap to open and close that you don&#;t have to crawl underneath and get tangled up to get in and out.

It&#;s also lightweight and portable enough to bring on car camping trips, beach trips, and any situation where you&#;ll be eating or sleeping outside and want protection from the misery of swarming mosquitoes. This can be hung from a single-point suspension system or can be set up with more structure. It&#;s also machine washable and comes in two sizes so you can select the best for you, depending on how much interior space you want and your group size.

Best Lightweight

Ben&#;s InvisiNet Insect Head Net

PHOTO: Amazon

Why We Love It

  • It has some of the best visibility I've ever seen on a mosquito net.

What to Consider

  • It is too small for a wide-brimmed hat.

This mosquito net is about as basic as it gets, and is the one I toss in my pack whenever I&#;m traveling to an area with a lot of standing water, or plan to camp in a place known for bugs. This was my saving grace on a mosquito-filled trip to Glacier National Park, and meant I could stay outside my tent longer in the evenings instead of being chased inside by bugs. It fits well over a baseball cap or without a hat (I recommend you wear one to keep the material off your face), but it is too small for a wide-brimmed hat. So for anyone into the full sun hat look, I suggest looking for a slightly larger model with more coverage.

Best Budget

Hestya Four-pack Mosquito Net Mesh For Head, Neck, and Face

PHOTO: Amazon

Why We Love It

  • These are packable, inexpensive nets for trips where you won&#;t be needing them all the time.

What to Consider

  • These are not the most durable mesh and can tear with too much abrasion.

Get a four-pack of these mosquito head nets for about the same price as one tube of anti-itch cream. Each of these minimalist nets comes with its own carrying pouch and a 21-inch net that sits over a baseball cap or wide-brimmed hat, offering enough length and protection to keep bugs from flying up underneath. These are a great option for hikers or travelers who won&#;t be using it every day, but want the option for some regions or particularly bug-heavy areas.

Best for Backpackers

Sea to Summit Head Net With Insect Shield

PHOTO: Sea to Summit

Why We Love It

  • This is small enough to fit into a pocket for easy access when you need it.

What to Consider

  • We&#;d like this to be a bit longer so insects can&#;t get underneath it.

This is a dedicated backpacking/outdoor recreation head net from a trusted brand, and comes with a little more shape and reinforcement than the generic models. This fits right in my pocket but has enough coverage to be worn with a wide-brimmed sun hat, and keeps everything from horseflies to small mosquitoes away. I also appreciate that this model is treated with a bug repellent that will last multiple seasons and dozens of washes, though it would be nice if it were a few inches longer, as I&#;ve had bugs fly underneath it when it lifts up around the neck.

Best for Camping

MSR Front Range Bug/Floor Insert

PHOTO: REI

Why We Love It

  • With plenty of room and a low weight penalty, this is a versatile shelter for up to four people.

What to Consider

  • It can be finicky to set up, be aware of tensioning angles.

For backpackers or campers who want the protection of a bug net without the weight of a full tent, this compact shelter from MSR is a great choice. Taking the ultra-fine mesh of some of their lightest weight shelters, this minimalist insert can be used on its own with a trekking pole and stake setup, or used in conjunction with MSR&#;s Front Range shelter series. I used this on a trip in the Wind River Range, and while it was tricky to set up at first, once I had the lines tensioned correctly, it provided a good amount of coverage and full protection from the swarming flies. This model can fit four people comfortably, and at just under two pounds carrying weight, isn&#;t too heavy to carry on your own. I also love the versatility &#; it&#;s light and packable enough for backpacking, but can be used as a beach setup or front-country shelter thanks to the spacious interior.

Best Oversized

Mombasa Outback Travel Net &#; Double

PHOTO: Amazon

Why We Love It

  • You can sleep two full-size cots under this net with full protection.

What to Consider

  • Some might prefer freestanding, as this can be tricky to set up.

Available in single and double-size dimensions, this travel-ready net packs down to just 10 inches by 14 inches, deploying more than 35 square feet of coverage. This is ideal for a basecamp setup or cots for car camping, and you can also set it up for a beach day with protection from stinging bugs. While I do love how lightweight and packable this net is, it does require six tie-down points to fully open up for maximum space. This is kind of annoying if you&#;re setting up and breaking down every day, so people who don&#;t have as much concern with travel and portability should consider a freestanding model.

Best for Hammocks

Kammok Dragonfly Hammock Bug Net

PHOTO: Amazon

Why We Love It

  • The tension straps are easy to adjust and fine-tune.

What to Consider

  • Be careful when rolling this for travel, it can be tricky to straighten out.

With a deeper base and more structure than others on the market, this is my pick for hammock protection. I&#;ve had no issues with the setup and tensioning thanks to the knot-free system, which makes it easy to adjust to your specific dimensions without the material sagging. It&#;s made with Kammok&#;s proprietary mesh, sized with holes that keep out not just mosquitoes and tiny biting flies, but no-see-ums as well, which others on the market don&#;t protect against. If you set this up correctly, you should be able to sit up with enough headroom to be comfortable, and move around without feeling like you&#;re in a mesh coffin.

Best Hanging Net

Even Naturals Luxury Mosquito Net For Double to King Size Bed

PHOTO: Amazon

Why We Love It

  • This hanging net comes in multiple sizes for the best coverage.

What to Consider

  • It requires a good amount of setup for maximizing space.

This ultra-fine mesh hangs above your bed and can be used at home or during travel. This is my choice for sleeping without tons of bug spray on, and can be used over different sized beds or set up on a porch for camping out on air mattresses. It has two overlapping openings with plenty of extra material so you can get in and out without letting the bugs in, and the mesh is very breathable. It&#;s machine washable and comes in multiple sizes for different sized beds or coverage areas, and also looks pretty darn cute.

Best Freestanding Net

Coos Bay Pop Up Canopy Tent

PHOTO: Amazon

Why We Love It

  • This is roomy enough for a backyard dinner.

What to Consider

  • The legs are kind of finicky to stabilize.

This 10x10 standalone canopy is perfect for setting up all season in your backyard, but is also portable enough to take to the lake or front-country campsite. We used this for backyard dinners in a bug-infested part of New England, and it&#;s large enough to comfortably sit a reasonable size group without feeling cramped. It sets up like a pop-up tent, with pins in the legs and three different heights, which make it easier to set up without help. The mesh sidewalls are easy to attach with hook-and-loop closures, and they secure well without gapping. The material is sized to keep out mosquitoes and black flies, but won&#;t hold back the tiniest gnats &#; something to keep in mind depending where you find yourself.

The Details: 10 x 10 feet | 28.2 pounds | Nylon and polyester mesh

Best Wearable Net

Tough Outdoors Mosquito Suit

PHOTO: Amazon

Why We Love It

  • The zippered head covering is easy to open for eating and drinking.

What to Consider

  • We&#;d love to see more precise sizing choices.

The first time I saw a hiking companion whip out a full-body mosquito net suit I laughed all the way to the campsite. No one was laughing later that night as I almost clawed myself into oblivion from dozens of mosquito bites as my companion ate his Hostess Cupcakes in peace. A full-body mosquito suit might seem like overkill until you&#;re being tormented by swarms of insects, then you&#;ll wish you had one. This is a pretty basic, affordable, lightweight suit with a very fine mesh that keeps the bugs away but doesn&#;t impede too much airflow. It has its own carrying pouch and can be stashed in the outer pocket of a backpack. Even if you don&#;t hike with this, it can be nice to have along for sitting out of the tent once you&#;re at camp and not being forced inside by the bugs.

What is the best mosquito net - Mosquitonets.com

The best mosquito net for you depends on your specific needs and preferences

Here are some factors to consider when choosing a mosquito net

  1. Size: Make sure to choose a mosquito net that is appropriately sized for your bed or sleeping area.
  2. Material: Look for a net made of high-quality, fine mesh fabric that will keep even the smallest insects out. We sell cotton, polyester and silk mosquito nets that are guaranteed to keep out even the most persistent mosquito.
  3. Design: There are several designs to choose from, including a box shaped canopy, a round shaped canopy or a freestanding pop-up mosquito net. The box shaped mosquito net canopy can be tied onto a poster bed or suspended from the ceiling with 4 hooks. The round shaped canopy needs 1 hook, and the popup mosquito net is freestanding. Consider which design will work best for your space and needs.
  4. Portability: If you plan on traveling with your mosquito net, consider a lightweight and easily packable option.

Ultimately, the best mosquito net for you will depend on your individual needs and preferences.
