Over the last few years, I have tried, and found helpful, a number of the most highly regarded brands of Rhodiola - Swedish Herbal Institute, Arctic Root, SHR-5 Extract; Jarrow Rhodiola Rosea 5% Rosavins; Gaia Herbs Rhodiola Rosea - but unfortunately I've also tried brands I found to be less effective, and less than effective - hello Holland and Barrett - in fact, about as effective as a bunch of twigs and floor sweepings jammed into a capsule. I've found the better Rhodiola brands to be a fairly reliable energy boost, and a nice mood boost; although with some brands the energy can veer towards the jittery. And just 'fairly reliable' because an annoying issue with every brand has been a degree of tolerance. To mitigate against this to some extent, I would take less than daily (usually, every other day), with a break after each bottle/pack. So, as a fan of this herb, and a fan of this site, I was delighted to see Rhodiola appear on Nootropics Depot's shelves. Typically, a lot of thought and work has gone into this, with ND offering the innovation of two different extracts to choose from - the Salidrosides or the Rosavins - with the option of a sample pack for the curious and/or the indecisive (I'm both). I've started with the Rosavins - 600 mg twice a day - and I'm not surprised to find that it's easily the best Rhodiola I've tried - a natural-feeling energy and mood boost without any hint of a jitter. The only thing that will prevent me buying a full tub once this little tub is done, is if the Salidrosides is even better. I doubt it; I think Rosavins is the one for me. As with all Rhodiola, tolerance is an issue, but I wonder if switching between extracts might, to some extent, circumvent this. As with all ND products, the quality, the packaging, and the customer service is superb, and there is no comparison on price - Gaia costs me around £15 for 60 doses - ND is £28 for more than 200, or £45 for 415, if I buy bulk. Which I don't doubt I will.
