HIGH Impact Bushing Material?
My brother-in-law has destroyed the front suspension on his UTV off-road racer. He seeks an upgrade but lacks the funds for high-end heim joints. This 1500 lb UTV encounters extreme conditions, flying through the air, submerging the suspension in mud/water, and tackling knee-high obstacles at speeds over 70 mph.
Upon inspection today, he found the bushings and through bolt to be severely damaged. He asked for my advice on a suitable fix. The bolt, likely 10 mm, passes through a sleeve within lengthy plastic bushings. He plans to reinforce the mounting brackets with gussets and use 1/2" through bolts. The control arm bores are approximately 3/4".
I suggested Delrin bushings, but he prefers sintered bronze or Oilite. I'm uncertain about boring the oil-soaked material without closing its pores. What material would you recommend for this application? These upper control arms are not directly subjected to spring loads. Below are pictures of the damaged parts.
