What is your cancellation policy?
Once an order is placed—whether it’s verbally, via a purchase order, or through our online platform—Darby begins processing your request immediately. We encourage you to verify your specifications, quantities, and dimensions before finalizing your order.
Cancellations may incur a minimum charge of 25%, however, certain orders such as custom manufacturing or specially fabricated pieces may not be eligible for cancellation.
What is your chemical & physical certification policy?
Edward J. Darby & Son, Inc. can provide chemical and/or physical certification for most types of woven or welded wire mesh. A request for such certification must be explicitly included in your official purchase order. Unfortunately, after an order has shipped, we are generally unable to provide certifications extending beyond a 60-day window.
For any unique or specialized certification needs—including statements pertaining to DFAR, USA manufacture, Country of Melt, ROHS compliance, Dodd-Frank conflict materials, LEED, and magnetic permeability—these must be clearly communicated in your initial request for quotation (RFQ) and noted on the purchase order. Special certification requests may incur additional charges, so please consult one of our sales representatives or quality control experts for more information.
What is your damaged shipment policy?
Upon receiving your wire mesh shipment, it's your responsibility to inspect the exterior for any visible damage. Should any damage be identified, it must be noted on the delivery receipt and associated documents prior to acceptance. Taking a photo to document damage is highly recommended. After unpacking, if any material is found damaged, you are responsible for filing a claim with the carrier. Promptly filing the claim and requesting an inspection remains the customer’s obligation.
Do you offer expediting services?
At Darby, we understand that there are times when our clients need materials urgently. Therefore, we provide an array of expediting services, which include same-day shipments, rush deliveries, and expedited fabrication. Due to our expansive inventory and dedicated staff, we can often dispatch stock materials on the same day the order is placed. We utilize UPS World Ship for express shipping options and work closely with various motor freight carriers to meet our customers' needs promptly. Please be aware that some expediting requests may incur surcharges; feel free to contact us to discuss your specific expediting requirements.
We recognize the fast-paced nature of today's business environment and strive to provide swift responses for most quotes.
What are your quality standards?
Most wire mesh supplied by Darby complies with the standard specification for industrial woven wire cloth—ASTM-E-11. It's crucial for anyone purchasing wire mesh to familiarize themselves with this specification, which you can find at www.astm.org. This specification outlines quality standards specific to the wire mesh industry.
According to ASTM E--11, wire cloth must be woven with first-rate craftsmanship, although some blemishes or defects may occur due to the weaving process. Darby is committed to ensuring the delivery of high-quality wire mesh, adhering to a quality initiative designed to meet or exceed customer expectations.
Wire mesh is intended primarily for industrial applications where functionality is key. Nonetheless, due to its versatility, it also finds usage in other contexts where aesthetic appeal matters.
Generally, we cannot guarantee perfectly defect-free materials, as irregularities are a natural part of the weaving process. If you have strict quality standards, we recommend discussing them with a sales representative and reviewing the permissible blemishes as outlined in ASTM E--11.
What are your quantity tolerances?
The wire mesh we supply typically conforms to the ASTM-E-11 specification, crucial for any buyer to review ahead of procurement. Key points about quantity tolerances involve full roll purchases and custom fabricated parts.
ASTM E--11 specifies that a standard roll consists of 100 linear feet, with a tolerance of +/- 10 feet; it can be made up of up to three pieces but no piece should be shorter than 10 feet. For instance, an acceptable roll might include 50 feet, 30 feet, and 20 feet as separate pieces.
For custom or fabricated items, there is generally a variance of +/- 10%. Any other variances must be agreed upon before a purchase order is accepted.
Customers with specific quantity tolerances should discuss them directly with Darby. For more detailed information on tolerances, please visit www.astm.org.
What is your return policy?
Edward J. Darby & Son, Inc. has been dedicated to providing high-quality industrial wire mesh since its foundation. After receipt of your materials, and before any cutting, fabrication, or alterations, it's essential to inspect the items to confirm they match your order. Once mesh has been processed or modified, returns cannot be accepted.
If you find issues with the quality of the mesh, you must report the discrepancies in writing within 10 days of delivery. After this notification, Darby may issue a Return Goods Authorization along with shipping instructions. The customer will be responsible for return shipping costs unless the issue stems from an error on Darby's part.
Darby reserves the right to examine any returned material prior to issuing a credit, refund, or replacement. Our inspection will include checks for non-conformance according to the applicable tolerances and defect standards outlined in ASTM E--11 or other relevant industrial guidelines. Should the material fail to meet these standards, Darby will either replace it or issue a refund along with reasonable shipping costs associated with the return.
Authorized returns of unprocessed rolls will incur a restocking fee, and we may not be able to accept returns on items that were ordered incorrectly, mesh that has been cut, fabricated parts, or custom made products.
Do you offer special packaging requirements?
Frequently, users of wire mesh have specific packaging needs for their products. Common requests include individually packaged items, flat shipments, additional protective packaging, consolidated shipments, and tailored boxing. For any special packaging requests, please reach out to discuss your requirements. Additional charges might apply.
Do you offer wire mesh analysis?
If you possess a piece of mesh that needs identification or replication, Edward J. Darby & Son, Inc. is here to assist. Our team of experienced professionals can identify almost any woven or welded mesh that you have in your possession.
We are capable of determining mesh count, wire diameter, opening size, and the percentage of open area—all at no cost to you. We can also identify specific alloys and chemical compositions, though a fee for this detailed analysis may be applicable.
Can you make specific wire mesh recommendations?
This website is designed to provide you with comprehensive information gathered from our broad spectrum of customer experiences over the years. Most importantly, it serves as a helpful guide for making informed decisions regarding wire mesh purchases.
While we cannot provide specific wire mesh recommendations for particular applications, we advocate for sampling, prototyping, or consulting with an industry expert or engineer to determine the best fit for your needs.
